Food Blog
Breakfast has always been an important part of my family for as long as I can remember. Every morning when I would get up, my parents and I would begin working hard on our first accomplishment of the day, our meal. Without breakfast, our day would just drag on while we waited for something to do; this is why I love breakfast. It starts our day right and gets us moving, even when we sometimes don't want to. We make all kinds of delicacies, everything from warm cinnamon rolls and fluffy omelets to my favorite, our hash brown quiche. Before we got this recipe from a family friend, we would always make the fixings to breakfast burritos, but this is our prized dish. It starts with one package of frozen (stay with me now) hash browns, followed by two eggs, milk, crispy bacon, freshly grated cheese and some seasonings. About this time in the kitchen, my mom cracks open a diet coke; our signature beverage. I don't really know why diet coke became our drink of choice for the mornings, but my mom and her soda are inseparable after about 10am. As I'm mixing the hash browns, milk and eggs together in a bowl, my sisters crawl into the kitchen for the first time. They want to appear helpful so when we all have our heaping plates of food, we don't question their laziness. Not to say my sisters are lazy, but they definitely need a boost to get going in the morning. When all the ingredients are mixed together, our creation looks and smells like dog food, but after cooking in an oven for about forty minutes, it becomes something out of this world. When slicing the pie for the first time, an aroma fills the room comparable to the creations of the finest chefs in the world. With the potatoes cooked perfectly, the bacon still crispy, and little bits of caramelized ham on top, this dish is to die for.
